Country : France
Region : Margaux
Durfort Vivens is a classic Margaux. The bouquet is smooth, flamboyant and elegant. The structured palate has refined tannins. The finish reveals subtle spice notes. The new vintages are highly appreciable.
The quality of Durfort's wines was recognized at the end of the 18th century; Thomas Jefferson, the American ambassador and future president of the United States, placed it directly after Lafite, Latour and Margaux in his fascinating travel journals. His opinion was confirmed in the 1855 classification when it was ranked a second growth. The vineyard consists of several plots, surrounded by vines belonging to Château Margaux. For many years, the wines produced did not meet the expectations of its second growth classification. Since François Lurton is at the head of this beautiful property, the quality has undeniably increased. Since 2016, Durfort Vivens has been Demeter certified. This proves the new owners’diligence to create great wines.
This vintage has presented remarkable balance in its early years since a bottling. The nose is very aromatic, with a very pure expression of red fruit(raspberries, blackcurrants and blackberries) emphasized with hints of flowers (violets), spices (Szechuan pepper) and very fresh mineral notes. In the mouth the texture is full-bodied and silky. The tannin structure offers an outstanding freshness and elegance with a very persistent finish that combines fruit and spices.
