Winemaker Notes
The Cuvée Katrina Eileen has remarkable sophistication and character. Rich, dense and layered with fine grain soft, silky tannins help to create an opulent indulgent and simply delicious wine. Phenomenal aromas of dark chocolate, tobacco, blackberry and cassis complement a concentrated length that persists long after tasting. As always broad and powerful, it is also nuanced. Ripe black and blue fruits with sweet violets showcase a level of complexity and balance. This Cuvée Katrina Eileen is one of our favorite wines upon release to date.
About Winery
Buccella: Latin for "mouthful." Its name evokes the wine's big, bold concentrated layers that wrap a mouth with luxury. The story of Buccella began over a beautiful bottle of 1990 Gaja. It was William and Alicia Deem's first date. They were two individuals with distinct dreams, until their common love of wine started them on a wonderful journey together. Their passion drove them to begin the pursuit of a shared dream in 2002 – quite simply –to make the best wine they could. The Deems savor wine for its ability to make connections, create memories, and nourish the true enjoyment of life. Buccella handcrafts limited production Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Rebekah Wineburg is their winemaker and Celia Welch is consultant winemaker.
Named after our first-born daughter, Cuvée Katrina Eileen is primarily composed of fruit from a vineyard in the Western Hills of Yountville, where yields are miniscule. The extremely rocky soil of the vineyard produces concentrated clusters of perfectly ripened Cabernet Sauvignon.
In German, the name “Katrina” represents purity and fittingly, this wine is made entirely from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape, providing a pure expression of this decadent varietal. It also reflects our daughter’s personality with flavors that are complex, unreserved and expressive.
