About Winery

Our wines are produced from varietals grown in our 45-acre Estate Vineyard located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The winery has been in the forefront to develop methods that have changed the face of winemaking in California and will continue to do so.

We are recognized as a leader in the use of whole-berry fermentation, one of the first winemakers to import French Oak barrels and an early advocate of foot crushing and small barrel fermentation.

"We believe Mother Nature provides the palette of ingredients. First, the noble robe.  It is that beautiful color that implies the abundant extraction that a great wine must have and color is the engine that pulls the Pinot Noir train.  Secondly, comes a velvety texture, those wonderful soft tannins that anoint the palate and coerce you to have another bite of food.  Our wines have that velvety texture from the first sip.  Lastly, there is a distinct fruit-forwardness; a mixture of varietal fruit and spice that soothes the senses and proves beyond a doubt that heaven is real.”

The David Bruce winery was established in the early 1960s and was one of the first pioneering wineries of the region to lead a modern resurgence of premium winemaking. David Bruce purchased land above the fogline in the Santa Cruz mountains after completing his medical residency and set about clearing and planting the vineyard by hand. For 25 years, he divided his time between the vineyard and his dermatology practice until 1985 when he retired from medicine in order to focus on the vineyard. David Bruce Winery was one of the 12 Californian wineries to participate in the now famous 1976 `Judgment of Paris` in which California Cabernets and Chardonnays outscored French Bordeaux and Burgundies in a blind tasting. Today, the David Bruce Winery has 16 acres, 9 of them focus solely on Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes

An aromatic, deliciously refreshing wine with fruit notes of apricot, peach and dried fig. Semi-dry with a refreshing, balanced acidity. Pairs well with cheese plates, to spicy foods.
