About Winery
L'Aventure is a well-regarded Paso Robles winery with a small production and a dedicated following. It makes both Cabernet Sauvignon- and Syrah-driven red wines from vineyards along the Santa Lucia mountain range.
The estate was founded by French winemaker Stephan Asseo when he arrived in Paso Robles in 1996 looking for suitable growing conditions for Rhône varieties. Asseo began making wine in the 1980s and had already established a winery in Bordeaux.
L'Aventure has 51 hectares (127 acres) of land planted to Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Roussanne, Viognier and Grenache Blanc in the southwest of Paso Robles. The vineyards benefit from the cooling effects of the nearby Templeton Gap that allows breezes from the Pacific to pass through the mountains. These breezes mean the vineyards have dramatic temperature drops at night (high diurnal fluctuation), helping the fruit retain its acidity as it matures. The red grapes are all completely de-stemmed before fermentation. L'Aventure has 20 fermentation tanks, so that each vineyard block can be vinified separately.
L'Aventure's popularity has been driven by its small production – roughly 8000 cases annually – and positive critical reception.

2016 L'Aventure For Her

"The 2016 For Her got more than one 'Wow' in my notes and boasts a rock star nose of pure blueberry and blackberry fruits, liquid violets, crushed herbs, and ground pepper. A blend of 46% Syrah, 39% Graciano (which they originally thought was Monastrell), and 15% Viognier, this full-bodied effort cuts a straight, focused path on the palate and has good acidity, awesome purity of fruit, and a great, great finish. 2017 L'Aventure For Her

"The 2017 For Her is a riper, sexier wine compared to the cool-climate style of the Chloe cuvée and offers a rocking bouquet of exotic, black and blue fruits, ground pepper, melted licorice, and candied orange peel. It's rich, full-bodied, loaded with fruit and texture, and is impeccably balanced. The purity of fruit is just about off the charts and this beauty is easily up with the crème de la crème in the vintage. Based on 54% Syrah, 32% Graciano, and a whopping 14% Viognier, all co-fermented and aged 14 months in 40% new French oak, it’s pure Paso Robles magic and will keep for 10-15 years. Unfortunately, there are only 250 cases produced."
