A rich and compelling nose of blackberry, cassis, smoky leather, and dried herbs is enhanced with layers of plum and cherry, cocoa and sandalwood. Notes of pencil lead and crushed rock mingle with subtle nuances of sage and menthol. Bold and full-bodied, this wine is structured firmly around a solid core of boysenberry and cherry fruit.

Youthful purple. Ripe, spice-accented cherry, dark berries and candied flowers on the deeply scented nose and in the mouth. Silky and open-knit; a building peppery element adds vivacity to sweet blueberry and cherry flavors. Bitter chocolate and allspice notes come up on the clinging finish, which is shaped by smooth tannins. In the context of California Cabernet, this wine delivers fantastic value. (JR) (9/2016)

The straight 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is an inky colored, ripe and voluptuous effort that has no hard edges, tons of fruit, and impressive notes of plums, licorice and smoked herbs. This cuvee comes from a number of sites throughout the appellation. This was a massive tasting with brothers Daniel and Georges Daou, who have a large estate located high up off of Adelaida Road. While they release a terrific Syrah blend, their focus is on Bordeaux varieties, and along with l'Aventure and Booker, they make the finest Bordeaux blends from Paso Robles. (JD) (8/2016)
