Winemaker Notes
Château Montrose 2024 stands out as a masterful interpretation of its estuary terroir, a wine of relief, chiselled by a demanding climate and magnified by the precision of the teams. This great wine reveals a dense, deep garnet-red color with purplish highlights, a harbinger of its concentration.
The nose opens with restraint, then blossoms with nuances of ripe black fruit (wild blackberry, black plum), enhanced by a racy floral touch (iris, violet) and deeper notes of graphite, black tea and finely integrated noble wood.
On the palate, the entry is straightforward, pure, almost crystalline. The structure is impressive but perfectly controlled, driven by a sovereign Cabernet Sauvignon (80% of the blend). The tannins are extremely fine, tight and silky, creating a long, vertical structure. The wine's energy is palpable, underpinned by a remarkable natural freshness, the signature of the 2024 vintage. The long, mineral finish stretches out on accents of licorice, cocoa bean and sweet spices.
Château Montrose 2024 is a complete wine, luminous and deep, both powerful and elegant. It perfectly embodies the rigor, precision and ambition of a Cru Classé at the pinnacle of its appellation, with exceptional cellaring potential.
About Winery
Second growth classified in 1855. With its terroir of big gravels located by the river Gironde, its classic and powerful style, Montrose is often called the Latour of Saint Estephe. Montrose needs time to express its incomparable delicacy. In the first decade, its fantastic potential is hidden behind a certain austerity. In the second decade, the wines open themselves. In the third decade, they explode, and the terroir expresses itself. In the hands of the family Charmolle from 1896 to 2006, it is now run by Martin and Olivier Bouygues.
