Winemaker Notes

The 2024 Chateau Leoville Barton is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. It was aged in French oak barrels (60% new oak) for 18 months. The tasting notes describe an open bouquet with black fruit, potpourri, and light sous-bois scents, along with flavors of black cherry, plum, lavender, new leather, and graphite. It is known for its elongated and supple tannins, and its potential for aging.

About Winery

The Château Léoville Barton is one of the must-have references in the Saint-Julien appellation. It was in 1725 that Thomas Barton, an Irishman by birth, settled in Bordeaux and founded his own wine trading company.

Then in 1826, Hugh Barton, already owner of Château Langoa Barton to Saint-Julien, acquired part of Léoville's Domaine, which he renamed Léoville Barton. In the famous 1855 classification, Château Léoville Barton was given the title Second Grand Cru Classé. Today, the Barton family is still at the helm of Domaine, making it the oldest family still owning a Cru Classé from Bordeaux.

The 50-hectare vineyard is planted on gravel-clay soils facing the Gironde estuary, with 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. The wines are aged for 18 months in 60% new barrels.

The Domaine produces a Second wine, the Réserve de Léoville Barton.

The Château Léoville Barton reveals itself to be a wine of great subtlety, complex and seductive. A nectar that deserves to improve for a few years to reveal an even more grandiose face
