2018 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Home Ranch Cuvée

Vintage  : 2018
Country : USA
Region  : Sonoma Coast

Winemaker Notes

The 2018 Sonoma Valley vintage ofered moderate weather, cool evening temperatures and a long, even growing season. The weather conditions were ideal and allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly over the course of summer and early fall. This allowed the grapes to gain flavor complexities and ripe tannins, while retaining natural acidity. The vineyards ofered grapes of exceptional quality. Home Ranch Vineyard delivered robust blueberry flavors and layers of silky tannins this vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon lots from neighboring vineyards in southern Sonoma Valley were blended in, resulting in a complex cuvée. The wine was aged for 20 months in 70% new French oak barrels from top coopers Darnajou, Taransaud and Bel Air.

About Winery

The Home Ranch Cuvée is built on a core of clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Home Ranch Vineyard in southwest Sonoma Valley, planted by Sojourn founder Craig Haserot in 2002. Tight spacing and immaculate vine training result in evenly ripened grapes with tiny berries and loose clusters. Robust blueberry fruit aromas and big silky tannins distinguish Home Ranch Vineyard wines from most of its Sonoma Valley brethren.

"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Home Ranch Cuvee comes mostly from vines on the west side of Sonoma that were planted by Sojourn founder Craig Haserot. Revealing a dense purple hue, the wine offers a youthful, subtly unevolved nose of dark black and blue fruits intermixed with plenty of sappy green herbs, graphite, tobacco, and lead pencil. Medium to full- bodied on the palate, it displays that classic Sonoma vibe of minerality, acidity, and structure, while still bringing plenty of fruit and richness."

94 POINTS International Wine Report

The Sojourn Napa Valley Cabernet is a lovely effort that is brought up in 75% new French oak and rests 20 months in barrel. It reveals a deep purple color as well as a fantastic bouquet of black plum, cassis, a touch of jalapeno pepper, dark chocolate, dried rose petals, and dried mint aromas on the nose. A lovely palate of fresh blackberry, wet loamy earth, and white pepper merge with the elevated acidity, high - but not overpowering - tannins, and a solid lengthy finish.

93 POINTS Jeb Dunnuck

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is sunny with cassis, violet candy, and sweet tobacco. The palate is full gripping structure that lifts cleanly off the palate. Black plum and graphite fill out the mid-palate, with dried herbs on the finish
