Ring in the Lunar New Year with THE FINGER LAKES PIONEER
Celebrating 60 Years
Four generations strong, the Frank family has been leaders of grape growing and winemaking throughout the Finger Lakes. Our estate vineyards on Keuka Lake represent the oldest Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir vines in the Eastern United States. We are known for producing highly acclaimed traditional method sparkling wines, crisp and aromatic white wines, and rich red wines.
Keuka & Seneca Lake Vineyard
The vineyards on Keuka Lake are located on steep, east-facing slopes with elevations from 950 ft to 1200 ft. The acidic, shallow soils include Volusia and Mardin channery silt loam with high shale content. Keuka Lake's cooler climate, occasionally freezing in winter, supports a mineral style of Riesling and enhances red grape varieties' acidity and elegance, ideal for traditional sparkling wines produced from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
In 2006, Fred Frank acquired a 60-acre plot on Seneca Lake's east coast, near its deepest point (680 ft), which offers a warmer microclimate. This land allows for delicate varieties like Gruner Veltliner and Pinot Noir, considering future climate change impacts. In 2017, an additional 30 acres became available for planting in 2021.
