Winemaker Notes
Lively aromas of freshly baked mixed-berry pie layer with hints of cola, caramel, blueberry jam, fresh plum, vanilla, and toasted marshmallow. On the palate, this Merlot is medium-bodied, full of ripe cherry and red fruit. It is round and mouth-filling with a bright finish, making it an excellent wine to pair with food. Rated “Best of Class”, San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Winery Exclusive.
About Winey
Our present-day winery and its 24-acre estate vineyard were part of the original Rancho Caymus land grant given in 1836 to George Yount, the area’s first European-American pioneer. Over the years the property changed hands until it was purchased in 1978 by James and Barbara Allen. The following year, the duo opened a winery in a 100-year-old barn beneath a grove of Sequoia trees, and so Sequoia Grove was born.
Shortly after the turn of the millennium, in 2002, Sequoia Grove Winery was purchased by the Kopf family and a new chapter began. There was a major investment in the modernization of both the winery and the fields, in order to achieve an even higher quality for the future. In 2006, Tonella Ranch, in the eastern part of Rutherford, was expanded and leased, with 20 hectares of fields. These fields were replanted with various vines and classic grapes of Bordeaux clones.
After being assistant winemaker for a short number of years, Molly Hill took over the overall responsibility as winemaker in 2008. To this day, it is still Molly Hill who is responsible for the wine production, and it is also she who in 2010 was the brains behind Sequoia Grove Winery's newest addition to the family - the series of absolute top wines called Sequoia Grove Cambium, which has already received great recognition from wine critics from the first vintage.

Lots of dark blue fruits plus slate and stones on the nose. Full-bodied, round and savory with pretty fruit and a hazelnut and dried-fruit finish. A little old school but very attractive. Drink or hold.
