Vintage: 2015

Region: Toro

Country: Spain

Winemaker Notes

Termanthia is bright purple, dark and deep in color.

It's a complex and elegant wine. Extremely rich and complete, the nose is a sophisticated palette of aromas. Fresh raspberries, blackberries, currants and other black fruits are tucked in by floral aromas of violets and rose petals. It also has shades of black pepper and toasted almonds that evolve into sweet spices such as cardamom and vanilla, ending in truffles and mineral notes characteristic of the terroir of Toro.

In the mouth, the wine is elegant and velvety, with a perfect balance between acidity and firm and silky tannins, which confer a great structure and volume on this wine. We feel a gradual explosion of delicate and concentrated aromas; A deep evolution in a cup in which all the aromas found in the nose, red and black fruits, cocoa and floral notes covering the palate until reaching a long and complex end of mouth with touches of spices, minerals, and toasted notes are felt.

About Winery

Numanthia is located in the Toro region of Spain. Its four vineyards are located along the south bank of the Duero River.

The wine is named after a legendary Spanish city that was destroyed (after 20 yrs of resistance) by Roman legions. It is to Spain what the hilltop village of Masada is to Israel: a monument of history. Its 40 hectares of land are covered with an abundance of elements derived from the disintegration of Pliocene grit, clay and limestone.

Numanthia's first vintage was produced in 1998 and received a 95-point rating from Robert Parker. Since then, the Toro region has been producing wines that have begun to rival those of Spain's richest wine-producing regions of Ribera del Duero, Rioja and Priorat.

93 Pts, Wine Advocate

"This red wine is very tasty, with plenty of fruit, a long and fleshy mid-palate, ripe tannins and a good acidity. Long and very persistent finish with fruity, toasted and mineral notes at retro-olfaction. One of the best Toro wines. Intense and bright cherry red colour. High intensity nose with aromas of ripe red fruit, spiced and sweet notes, pleasant toasted hints and mineral background. Concentrated, fleshy and expressive."

Vivino 4.5

"Deep, solid, smooth, flavoursome. Expected for the price clearly but won’t disappoint. Still doesn’t beat my personal favourite but nevertheless it’s superb."
