2016 QUINTESSA Rutherford Bordeaux Blend
A Pure Expression of the Estate
EACH VINTAGE OF QUINTESSA IS AN OPPORTUNITY to listen to the unique voice of this property that is shaped by the soils, vines, climate, and human element.
Every year has a distinct personality, and with each vintage we are working to make a deeper connection between the soils, their terroir, and our practices so that we can interpret the property holistically. In order to bring about the purest expression of this special place, we farm using organic and biodynamic farming techniques, and each year, we learn more about the land’s personality and how it reacts to the different conditions of each season. After thirty years, we have come to realize that the more we know about this estate the humbler we feel as we understand and accept the power of nature.
There is no record in our Estate of a more gracious vintage over the last fifteen years, where there was time to carefully observe the ripening of the grapes and evolution of their flavors with such care and precision. Because of this, the 2018 Quintessa is one of the finest and purest representations that we have seen to date. It reflects a vintage with a remarkable climate, the profound understanding of its diverse soils, and an extraordinary precision in its winemaking.
“The precision of the vintage, a result of the cooler weather, long harvest, and continued study of the property, is evident in the movement and texture of the wine. Already showing the hallmarks of a great age-worthy vintage, the 2018 Quintessa is both pleasurable to drink now and will continue to age with grace as it develops more savory notes and length to the finish over the next 20 years.,” – Rebekah Wineburg, Winemaker.

Phenomenal aromas of crushed berries, forest fruit, mushrooms and iron. Medium to full body, with layers of soft and refined tannins that follow through to a beautiful finish. Extremely long and refined. This shows depth and structure with balance and harmony. Hard not to open the bottle now and drink it, but it appears to be closing down now. (2/2019)
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Very deep purple-black in color, it comes bounding out of the glass like a pedigree pup with exuberant notions of crème de cassis, warm blueberries and black cherries with hints of redcurrants, kirsch, candied violets, crushed rocks, cigar box and fallen leaves plus a waft of truffles. Full, rich and beautifully laced with layers of floral notes and fragrant earth, the profound black and blue fruits build slowly in the mouth, achieving great energy and depth with a beautiful velvety frame, finishing long and perfumed.
