About Winery

Bradley is our founder, vineyard manager, and guide, uncompromising in his commitment to producing authentic and compelling wines, farming organically, and working with the best vineyard sites throughout the Santa Cruz and Gabilan Mountains.

Bradley was drawn to California post college for the natural beauty of the Sierras where he climbed, backpacked, and skied. He gradually made his way down the peninsula to Portola Valley and eventually to Boulder Creek in the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Under the guidance of Rhône Ranger John Alban, Bradley planted our Rattlesnake Rock Estate vineyard in 2000, vinified our first vintage in 2002, and built our winery in 2003 using redwoods sustainably harvested from the Estate.

Bradley presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Santa Cruz Mountain Winegrowers Association. He lives on the property with his two young sons, Kiran and Lakota, both of whom love grapes and tractors.

Vineyard and Region Information:
The Ferarri Family Vineyard (formerly known as Woodruff) is a special vineyard site in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The vines were planted over 40 years ago making it one of the oldest vineyards in this area. The sandy loam soils have great drainage and the vines are 100% dry farmed. The roots no doubt go deep in these sandy soils, and during some major heat stress events that caused problems in other vineyards, these vines hold up great. The vineyard is located in rolling hills of the Corralitos area at the Southern end of the Santa Cruz Mountains which are consistently cooled by fog moving in from Monterey Bay and often persisting through the late morning hours.

Vintage Notes:
Wine Notes: With the spice on the nose (linking it to the terroir also expressed by Lester Family Vineyard), there is also an alluring perfume with hints of rose petals, crushed flowers, plums, and raspberries. All of these things are echoed on the palate beautifully and with the flavors carried by dense, silky texture for a long, yet delicate finish. We have found that this wine is typically a sleeper. That is it might seem a bit shy at first, and might not impress fans of ripe, extracted Pinots, but give it a few years in the cellar and it will be singing. Put it in a line up with some nice Burgundies and you might be surprised by how a new world vineyard can stack up.
