2018 Carter Cellars Weitz Cabernet
Vintage : 2018
Country : USA
Region : Oakville
Long considered one of the gems in Turnbull Vineyard portfolio, the Weitz Vineyard sits on 62 glorious acres high on the Oakville Bench above some of the most famous vineyards in the world. Characterized by fractured volcanic rocks and degraded boulders, the scarcity of soil forces the vines to struggle and naturally controls fruit production. The fruit itself is renowned for its profound structure, elegant rich texture and lingering acidity and minerality. We are proud to join such notable wineries like the Maybach Family to source fruit out of this remarkable vineyard.
"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The G.T.O., short of any meaningful description, is simply one of the most profound and extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignons I have ever tasted in Napa Valley, and that’s saying something, given the extravagant cascade of great, great wines that have appeared in 2012 and 2013. This has it all. It’s like taking Chateau Latour and reducing it to the essence of that site, combined with the incredible purity, crème de cassis and blackberry fruit of the To Kalon Vineyard. This wine transcends reality -- a mind-boggling effort that every wine lover deserves to taste once in their life. A true bucket list Cabernet Sauvignon, available only in magnum and obviously very limited, it’s a tour de force, a majestic achievement and a showcase for what Napa is increasingly doing. Drink it over the next 50 years.."
100 Points~ Robert Parker
We have become more and more excited about our prospects of making great wine from the Weitz Vineyard and the 2014 vintage is showing exceptionally well. In the glass the wine is translucent purple and opens with signature scents of red and black berry fruits, cassis and crushed petals. Notably plush tannins and natural acidity are coupled with a distinct minerality from the volcanic soils. Considerable depth and fruit will continue to develop as the structure starts to integrate with bottle age and bring tremendous purity and allure. Decanting a few hours will benefit this wine for early drinking; cellar for 5-10 years to enjoy this wine in its prime. 95 points by Robert Parker "From above the Dalla Valle vineyard in Oakville emerges the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard (160 cases). This is a 25-year wine for sure and a rather classic Oakville, with notes of Pauillac-like cedariness, Christmas fruitcake, creme de cassis, licorice and pen ink. It is full-bodied, dense, moderately tannic and for 2014 probably better in 2-3 years time, although certainly has the depth and richness and overall equilibrium to age for 20-25 years."
