Stags' Leap Winery has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1872. The estate has been owned by various owners, including Mexican land grants, homesteading, bounty awards, and patents. The Grigsby family consolidated the 700-acre parcel where the current Stags' Leap estate resides. They planted grapes in 1872 and transferred the land to W.W. Thompson and H.H. Harris in 1873. The property was later divided between Horace Blanchard Chase and his uncle, leading to the current Stags' Leap estate. The winery's signature product, Petite Sirah, was developed under the leadership of Carl Doumani, who restored and improved the property over nearly three decades. Today, Stags' Leap Winery is owned by Treasury Wine Estates and continues to produce high-quality wines from the Stags Leap District.
