2016 Blankiet Estate
Winemaker Notes
The 2016 Rive Droite Paradise Hills Vineyard, Blankiet’s Merlot-based wine, is magnificent today. Merlot can be very quirky in its youth, especially when just bottled, but the Rive Droite is incredibly expressive, which provides a great opportunity to see its potential. Rich and boisterous in the glass, with tremendous textural resonance, the Rive Droite is gorgeous. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2016 for at least a handful of years. I don’t see the 2016 ready to offer its best drinking any time soon.
Hint Mystery Bottle 1
James Suckling 91
Plum skin, freshly tanned leather, vanilla, ripe dark cherries, slight orange zest, and huckleberries. This wine is broad with chewy tannins and fills the mouth along its acid backbone. A testament to its style and heritage drink this with a burger fresh off the grill or the duck confit that you're making on Thursday.
Hint Mystery Bottle 2
This Pinot Noir shows rich colors of dark garnet and currant. Plentiful aromas of cherry cola, black tea and wild blueberry give ample depth and character to the wine. A pleasant array of fruit flavors and barrel notes includes marionberry, candied cherry and hints of cedar and sweet tobacco. The wine tickles the palate with lingering tannins and a generous round mouthfeel.
Hint Mystery Bottle 3
Very active bubbles, clean, crisp and fresh notes of lemon zest, apples, citrus, and grapefruit. Slight hints of tartness, and long pleasant mouthfeel with cream and sweetness at the finish.
Hint Mystery Bottle 4
Wine Enthusiast 90
Sauvignon Blanc is pale yellow in color and displays aromas of honeysuckle, sweet herbs, lime, and fig. These aromas are complemented on the palate by the bright flavors of grapefruit, kiwi, passionfruit, and lemongrass, with the rich texture and long finish provided by the acacia barrel.
Hint Mystery Bottle 5
Vivino 4.5
From Coombsville to Calistoga – with fruit from the valley floor creating lushness and the hillsides providing backbone. Diversification enables us to make the best possible wine in a given year, featuring layered, lush aromas and flavors, including cocoa, cassis and ripe berries.
