Vintage: 2014

Region: Pomerol

Country: France

Winemaker Notes

The wines of Chateau Hosanna show a good intense color, with a normal evolution; on the nose, one finds a vivid bouquet with floral and fruits scents; on the palate, a good harmony and balance with fresh tannins ending on an aromatic and very pleasant finale. These are charming and typically Bordeaux wines in their complexity and finesse

About Winery

Situated in Libourne along the Dordogne River, the Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, of which Chateau Hosanna is a part, was founded in 1937. It is internationally known for its expertise in the Bordeaux wines of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion.

The company began its history as a wine merchant, specializing in the wines from the right bank of Bordeaux. The founder, Jean-Pierre Moueix, became one of the most influential people of the area when he began investing in properties of the region in 1952. At this time, the vineyard owners had no control over the finished product, since the "négoce" (negociants) of Bordeaux controlled the bottling and the sales. Mr. Moueix understood the market and what needed to be done. He was a visionary. The company is now managed by his son, Christian.

Fascinating aromas of crushed raspberries, stones and flowers. Full-bodied, dense and concentrated with fruit, wet concrete and walnut skin. A wine that is tight and structured. Needs time to soften. Try in 2022. (2/2017)

The 2014 Hosanna is rich, bold and dramatic, with all of its customary intensity on display. Black cherry, blueberry jam, plum, lavender and exotic spice overtones crescendo as this dramatic, sweeping Pomerol shows off its grandiose personality. Ample and voluptuous, but with plenty of underlying structure, it possesses fabulous depth as well as pedigree. A touch of Cabernet Franc adds aromatic intrigue, but above all else, Hosanna is a wine of breadth. (AG) 95+ (2/2017)

This is a small, 10-acre property, owned by the Moueix family, at the heart of the Pomerol plateau. With its 30% Cabernet Franc it is perfumed and ripe, giving delicious black fruits as well as a firmer structure. The wine is set for a long aging with great potential. Drink from 2024. The 2014 Hosanna followed the 2014 Latour-à-Pomerol at my tasting at J-P Moueix. To be frank, it did not quite possess the same breeding and precision as that wine, veering more towards red rather than black fruit, crushed strawberry and mulberry, tinged with clove and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and impressive fruit concentration. Here is the real quality: a structured and quite masculine Hosanna, albeit with genuine complexity, allspice and clove intermixed with dusky black fruit and freshly cracked black pepper. It finishes with a sense of confidence and style. Hopefully the aromatics can improve during bottle age; I strongly suspect that they will. (NM)  (3/2017)
