Winemaker Notes
The grapes were sourced from our Estate, and neighboring York Creek Vineyards, with the entire blend being solely from the Spring Mountain Appellation and all under estate control. Each lot’s time frame of maceration was based individually on each lot’s extraction, from 13 to 25 days. Each vineyard block was then aged separately for 22 months, the barrels being French oak and 65% new. The higher addition of Petit Verdot added structured tannins to the big Cabernet Sauvignon fruit while the Merlot adds mouthfeel. The Cabernet Franc adds spice to the aromatics as well as further backbone.
About Winery
Barnett Vineyards is located at the top of Spring Mountain with spectacular views of the Napa Valley 1700' below. Founded in 1983 by Fiona and Hal Barnett, this rocky mountainside is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and the blending varietals of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. In 1984, the first vines were planted in terraced rows with total plantings numbering fourteen acres by 1988. The vines yield an average of less than two tons of fruit per acre resulting in rich, intense wines that have become synonymous with the Barnett name.

Intense, with a compact core of boysenberry, fig and blackberry compote flavors that unwinds slowly with air, revealing açaí and plum fruit. A solid lacing of briar and licorice snap runs throughout, showing energetic grip through the finish. Best from 2020 through 2032.

Blended of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petit Verdot, 9% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District is deep purple-black in color and offers up baked blackberries, crème de cassis and fruitcake scents with hints of spice box and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, firm, chewy and with a lively line, it delivers uncomplicated baked berries flavors and an herbal lift on the finish.
