About Winery
Founding winemaker Delia Viader, PhD. applies a unique approach to grape growing and wine making, challenging new world conventions while honoring old world traditions; resulting in a highly sought after and coveted cult wine – their flagship Viader® Proprietary Red Blend. Delia forged the vision for this hillside estate vineyard and exceptional wine blend in 1986.
Our distinctive Viader® Proprietary Blend shows the typicity and consistency of the Viader® estate, with its firm structure influenced by the rocky volcanic soils of the eastern slopes of Howell Mountain, and its elegant, yet intensely rich profile achieved through our signature combination of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Pioneered by Delia Viader, one of the first female winemakers in the Napa Valley, our Viader® blend put Delia on the map as one of the first in Napa to tackle and successfully showcase Cabernet Franc as a deserving blending companion with Napa’s King, Cabernet Sauvignon.
In our iconic blend, Cabernet Sauvignon provides the backbone, structure, character and aging potential with succulent fruit and rich tannins, while Cabernet Franc instills a mellowed complementary balance and early approachability to the wine with beautiful aromatics, silky texture and an elegant finesse. Today, our Viader® blend continues our family winemaking legacy in Napa Valley, handcrafted by the mother and son winemaking team of Delia and Alan Viader.
93-95 points Jeb Dunnuck
Not yet bottled, the 2015 Viader Proprietary Red Blend is the same blend as the 2014 and is aging in 75% new French oak. It has slightly more density and plushness compared to the 2014, with more blue fruits, scorched earth, and graphite all showing.
93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2015 Proprietary Red Blend Viader sports a deep garnet-purple color and nose of crème de cassis, baked blackberries and kirsch plus hints of dried fruitcake, Chinese five spice, menthol and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, taut and seriously spicy in the mouth, it has an impressive array of earth and fruit layers supported by grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, with lingering aniseed notes on the finish. 91 points Wine Enthusiast
Thick and broad-shouldered in ripeness, this hearty blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Cabernet Franc is accented by blackberry, tar, leather and coffee. The tannins are robust and youthful.
