The 2018 vintage marks our finest Estate Micho to date, advancing our signature marriage of two iconic Bordeaux varieties—Merlot and Cabernet. An opaque, purple-black color leads the way, followed by a mesmerizing, multilayered bouquet that bursts from the glass with abundant aromas of blue and black fruits. A full-bodied palate is enveloped by flavors of blueberry, blackberry, black currant and vanilla with hints of pencil shavings and chocolate-covered dark cherry. This wine is beautifully fresh and focused, all while showing a complex earthiness backed by mineral notes. The finish is long, lingering and unending—affirming this wine as a blockbuster that will reward careful cellaring for decades to come.

In the golden, oak-studded hills of Paso Robles' fabled west side, not far from William Randolph Hearst's magnificent castle, there is a man with a Homeric vision. His name is Daniel Daou and he is devoting his life and every imaginable resource to creating, first and foremost, a Cabernet Sauvignon that rivals the very best in the world.
Gracefully perched atop a stunning promontory at 2,200 feet, the DAOU Spanish Colonial style winery is embraced by a tangible serenity. Hawks wheel and bank while the all-day sun caresses close planted rows of lush, emerald green vines. The 100 percent calcareous soil makes no sound as it passes out nourishment and only a gentle breeze flows up through the Templeton Gap from the Pacific. The quiet is bewitching; you want to lay down roots here, just as the four-year-old vines have done. But the sense of peace belies the serious industry at work on this 100 acre estate. No effort is spared to create the luscious varietals and blends that flow from this limited production winery. This kind of synergy happens rarely: superlative climate and terroir, super intensive vineyard culture, and cutting edge viticultural practice. You're more likely to find it in Bordeaux than Central California. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 96
The 2017 Micho is even more compelling than its 2016 counterpart. A blend of 52% Merlot and 48% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in 100% new French oak, it has a deep ruby-purple color and scents of warm chocolate, fresh violets, charcuterie, dried herbs and blackcurrant leaf with a core of marionberry, blackcurrant and blackberry pie plus notes of flowers, red fruit sparks and a minerally undercurrent. The medium to full-bodied palate unfurls to reveal layers of fresh, über spicy, mineral-laced fruits, with a firm but incredibly grainy frame and juicy freshness to oppose on the very long, layered finish. Wow!

Aromas of soy, cocoa, charred meat and dried berries show on the nose of this blend of 51% Merlot and 49% Cabernet Sauvignon. There’s a ripe hint of blackberry on the midpalate, where plenty of acidity and oak carry flavors of grilled meat and purple flowers.
