Winemaker Notes
the 2017 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux describe it as a soft, pretty, and aromatic wine, characterized by a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Key characteristics include lively red and black fruit aromas, such as redcurrants, cassis, and blueberries, complemented by floral notes of lavender and spices like cinnamon toast. The palate is medium-bodied with bright, crunchy fruits, fine-grained tannins, and a long, refreshing finish, with firmness in the tannins suggesting it will improve with bottle aging.
About Winery
At the beginning of the XXI century, Bordeaux wines are experiencing unprecedented success. The whole world seems to have their eyes riveted on Bordeaux, where the demand for these great wines never stops growing. This prosperity, as well as the rapid expansion of other regions in the world, has placed Château Margaux in a more competitive climate, and also allowed the underlining of its unique position: that of a First Growth classified in 1855, enjoying a terroir that has been shaped by the passing centuries.
But there is no room for it to rest on its laurels – it would be tedious to enumerate all the investments carried out in the property since 1977. It’s about being at the top of its inheritance, but never ceasing to question in order to improve and perfect that which can still be done, in acknowledgement of the heritage of Château Margaux.
The commercialisation, in 2013, of a third wine in order to improve further the quality of our first and second wines, the numerous trials that have been carried out over the last ten years, by our Research and Development department, in particular the observation of the response of the vines and the wine to biodynamics, and the establishment of an authentication system for our bottles are all examples of recent progress, worthy of the history of Château Margaux whilst ceaselessly progressing so as never to disappoint the enthusiasts of the whole world.

The quality of tannins in the Pavillon Rouge is really beautiful with extremely fine grain. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and silky. Racy and extended on the palate. Really pretty. Strength with elegance.

This wine is crisp, full of black currants and with attractive acidity as well as a firm texture. It is cool and classic, with a light touch of wood and tannin. It's likely to be ready from 2023. (RV)

A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Pavillon Rouge is terrific, with lots of cassis and black raspberry fruit as well as notes of spice box, flowery incense, and graphite aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, elegant, and silky on the palate, it has plenty of tannins as well as length and would pass for a top wine at most estates. Give it 2-4 years if you can, and it will offer lots of pleasure over the following 10-15 years (and probably longer).
