Winemaker Notes
Each character has its own voice that you, as the reader, learn and then are able to identify without being explicitly told who is speaking. Cardinale is much the same way, as each appellation acts as a character in the plot of the vintage. The plot’s complexity plays out on your palate with each sip—a truly great journey for those willing to take it.
About Winery
Founded in 1982 in the heart of Napa Valley’s Oakville District, Cardinale Winery was born from a singular, ambitious vision: to create one, superlative Cabernet Sauvignon that represents the best of Napa Valley’s mountain terroir. While many wineries focus on estate-driven, single-vineyard wines, Cardinale was designed to be a blend—a "symphony" of fruit sourced from various prestigious high-altitude sites, including Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain, and Diamond Mountain.
For decades, the crafting of this high-end, limited-production Cabernet (usually around 2,000 cases) has been guided by a meticulous, artistic process, led by winemaker Christopher Carpenter since 2001. Carpenter, often compared to an orchestra conductor, spends nearly two years tasting and grading 30-40 individual wine lots from different mountain blocks before crafting the final, seamless blend just before bottling.
Located on a scenic hilltop in Oakville, the estate itself has recently undergone a major renovation to reflect a more modern, yet historic, aesthetic, replacing old, rustic tasting areas with a refined, artistic space featuring, at times, live musical performances that echo the musicality of their blending philosophy.
