2014 Idol Ridge Vidal Blanc Ice Wine Finger Lakes
-
S$7698
Vintage : 2014
Region : Finger Lakes
Country : USA
Winemaker Notes
A sweet and rich dessert wine with flavors of honey, dried apricot, candied pineapple, and slight hints of butterscotch. This wine was produced in the traditional ice wine style from Vidal Blanc grapes, harvested in January 2014. The “polar vortex” conditions of that year allowed for multiple ice wine harvests, as the fruit stayed frozen on the vine for almost the whole month of January. Conditions were so cold that some of the fruit was even able to be picked in daylight—a rarity for ice wine production.
About Winery
Idol Ridge Winery has a fascinating history that began with the Martin family's beekeeping business. Co-Owners George and Ginny Martin, along with their son Ed, initially ran a commercial beekeeping operation. They started experimenting with home winemaking using honey, which led to the creation of Martin's Honey Farm & Meadery in Sterling, NY. As their passion for winemaking grew, they moved to the Finger Lakes region, partnering with local growers to produce a variety of wines, including vinifera, native, and hybrid grape varieties. They also ventured into distilling, establishing Alder Creek Distillery at Idol Ridge Winery.
The winery is known for its stunning lodge-style tasting room with handcrafted timber beams and chandeliers, offering a panoramic view of Seneca Lake. The Martin family's dedication to quality and innovation has made Idol Ridge Winery a notable name in the Finger Lakes wine community.
